How newflare came to be
newflare began in 2014 as a small group of news production people who wanted to work closer to the story and closer to the client. We settled in Chichester and have stayed there. The company has grown steadily, without chasing size.
The idea was simple: television newsrooms often need extra hands at short notice, whether a camera operator for a developing story or an editor to finish a package before a bulletin. We set out to be dependable for exactly that, with people who understand the pressure of a gallery clock.
Over the years the work widened. Clients who first asked us to shoot began asking us to edit, then to cover larger events, and eventually to look at how their own newsrooms handled stories from pitch to air. Each service grew out of a real request rather than a plan to sell more.
Helen Marsden leads daily output as Managing Producer, with more than fifteen years in television news production behind her. Around her are a senior camera operator, a lead video editor and a workflow consultant, each responsible for their own area and each reachable by clients directly.
We keep the company deliberately small so that the person who agrees the brief is involved in the work. It makes for fewer misunderstandings, quicker decisions and a clearer line of responsibility when a deadline is tight.
Our clients are television news editors, producers and broadcasters across the UK. Some use us occasionally for a single story, while others return for regular editing, event coverage or training, and we treat each job with the same care.
A newsroom should never have to wonder whether a package will arrive or whether it is right. Our job is to make both of those things dull and certain.
